a new chapter for our Library 36 Bookclub!

We know many of our customers love relaxing with a good book on The 36 – that’s why we teamed up with Harrogate International Festivals to open a new chapter in the story of our ever-popular Library 36 Bookclub.

Countless studies have shown that reading can reduce stress, stimulate the brain and boost relaxation. In fact, a survey by the University of Sussex reported that just six minutes of reading can cut stress by as much as 68 per cent – but it’s something you can’t enjoy when you do the driving!

The charity behind some of Harrogate’s favourite festival events famously provided over 1,000 novels to create a free-to-use library on board your buses on The 36 between Harrogate, Leeds and Ripon.

When you travel with us, you’re free to take a book away from our Library 36 Bookclub shelf on the lower deck, on the right as you board the bus – and we encourage you to leave a book in return, as together we can offer an ever-changing supply of great reads.

Our Project and Marketing Manager Matt Burley said: “Our customers tell us that our Library 36 Bookclub is hugely popular, which is why we’re delighted to be part of this brilliant initiative. We all live busy lives, but making time for reading is really beneficial and this is a great way to enjoy it on The 36.”

Harrogate International Festivals Chief Executive Sharon Canavar said: “This is very close to our hearts as we know the joy and pleasure that comes from reading a good book – whether it’s a page-turning thriller, a gripping crime novel or an inspiring memoir.”

Library 36 Bookclub is part of our always-improving journey experience on The 36, which now features stunning new zero-emission electric buses, each one packed from floor to ceiling with customer-friendly features.

Created to encourage reading for pleasure, Library 36 Bookclub builds on a long-running partnership between The Harrogate Bus Company and Harrogate International Festivals as part of their mission to provide arts opportunities for all.
