we build trust through ethical practices and strong local partnerships

We know how important local businesses are to the economic well-being of the communities we serve. That’s why, wherever possible, we choose local suppliers whenever we can – in printing, signage, construction and more – to work as partners with us to support our everyday business activities and deliver what our customers tell us matters most – safe and reliable bus services for work, shopping and leisure.

Trust is of paramount importance to us in our business dealings. As a widely respected leader in public transport, we at Transdev adhere at all times to our established Transdev Group Code of Ethics: at its core is our zero-tolerance policy, which prohibits any form of bribery, corruption or improper payment.

We know how important it is to ensure our colleagues can have confidence in speaking to us anonymously about any concerns they have – that’s why we have our ‘SpeakUp’ platform which enables anonymous reporting of any sensitive issues in a secure environment.

To equip our colleagues with the necessary skills to use this platform effectively, we also provide specific training for our employees to ensure they know how to spot issues early and raise them appropriately.

Our charitable support involves activities and co-operation throughout the year with our nominated charity partnerYorkshire Cancer Research – and with several other community-focused organisations.

Together, we seek to make a positive difference to our communities through taking part in fundraising activities, such as walking our Route 1 from Harrogate to Knaresborough to raise vital funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research’s We Walk for Yorkshire campaign.

In mid-December each year, we also organise a Christmas Jumper Day to encourage donations to Save The Children to support vulnerable children here in the UK and around the world. We also open Christmas food bank donation points at each of our depots in Yorkshire and Lancashire, to make it easier for our teams to assist those in need on our doorstep.

We support specialist education providers with free travel, including special needs children from Springwater School in Harrogate, and students from the town’s Henshaws College and local independent schools.

We’re also delighted to work with volunteer trainers from the Guide Dogs charity to help make travel simpler and safer. Puppy raisers with guide dogs of varying ages have visited us to familiarise themselves with every step of a journey with us, from boarding the bus and taking a seat to stepping off at their chosen stop in a safe and secure way.

Our strong partnerships with local authorities underpin our shared aims to encourage growth in bus travel through improvements to infrastructure and customer facilities. We manage bus stations at Harrogate and Ripon in co-operation with North Yorkshire Council: a similar arrangement is in place in partnership with Lancashire County Council at Rawtenstall Bus Station, where we provide colleagues to help customers with information, and to reduce queues at busy times by selling tickets before the next bus arrives.

In conjunction with North Yorkshire Council and Lancashire County Council, we also produce and display up-to-date and attractive roadside information at bus stops on the routes we serve, with designs based on feedback from our customers and local groups representing those with specific accessibility needs. In West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester, this task is undertaken on behalf of the directly elected Mayor by the Combined Authority.

We also know that for many of our customers, our services are part of a wider regional public transport network. With this in mind, our newest buses feature customer information screens displaying live and constantly updated information on rail, tram and bus connections at key interchange points along our routes.

More recently, we have formed an active partnership with regional tourism agency Visit North Yorkshire to promote sustainable travel by bus in and around England’s biggest county. As an experienced bus operator, we are proud to operate contracted bus services in some of Britain’s most beautiful locations as part of the successful DalesBus and Moorsbus networks.

Our ever-popular ‘Transdev Treats’ scheme encourages sustainable travel on our routes serving visitor destinations in Lancashire and Yorkshire. Working with attraction and catering providers, we offer our customers added value through negotiated discounts at stately homes, museums, cafes and more, by showing a voucher available from our bus drivers. We promote the scheme in our attractively designed ‘Days Out In Lancashire’ and ‘Days Out In Yorkshire’map guides, available free on our buses, at bus stations and via our website.

We play our part in creating a seamless multimodal journey experience by working with train operators to offer through travel using a single rail ticket to select destinations beyond the National Rail network, including on our FLYER route from Leeds to Leeds Bradford Airport and on Coastliner 840 from York railway station to Whitby, which helps long distance rail travellers heading to and from the Yorkshire coastal resort to avoid a lengthy detour with up to two changes of train.

Customers using long distance coach services can also enjoy through ticketing to and from our Coastliner network at Leeds City Bus Station, opening up journey options between National Express and Flixbus networks and popular destinations we serve including York, Malton, Pickering, Whitby and Scarborough.

We also work closely with transport advertising agency Outdo, based in Ripon in North Yorkshire, to offer exciting opportunities to businesses in the areas we serve to showcase their brands on the backs of our buses.
